Welcome back, one and all, to the Reflection Section! The most important tool I obtained from today’s lesson was how to incorporate technology into assessment and evaluation in the classroom. In a classroom environment that is becoming evermore digital, it makes sense to incorporate the technological devices in our society into the learning of students. Considering the SAMR model, the technology of today can do so much more than simply substitute and augment older styles of teaching. Online sites and programs allow students to embrace their creativity, and as Bloom’s Digital Taxonomy highlights, digital activities like blogging, podcasting and filming force students to engage their higher level thinking skills and develop their learning in new and entertaining ways.
As a language teacher, I fully intend for creative projects to make up the bulk of my assessment and evaluation strategies. Creative projects allow students to demonstrate their acquired knowledge in a way that best befits their preferred learning styles, and thanks to technology, they have a wealth of exciting avenues open to challenge their minds and advance their education.
